Vasil Bykov, Vasil Vasily Vladimirovich - Belarusian Soviet writer, People's Writer of Belarus, participant in the Great Patriotic War, captain. Born on June 19 in the village of Cherenovshchina, according to other information in the village of Bychiki, Ushachsky district of the Vitebsk region, Belarus in a poor peasant family.
After graduating from a seven -year school, Bykov entered the sculptural department of the Vitebsk Art College, but he was soon forced to return to the village - the scholarships were canceled. In the year he was drafted into the current army, he fell into an engineering battalion, which built defense fortifications, participated in battles on the Southwestern Front, then he was sent to the infantry school in the city of Saratov.
After graduating from the school, he fought as commander of a rifle platoon, a platoon of machine gunners and a platoon of anti -tank artillery in Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Austria before Victory. He was wounded twice. After the war, he began working in a newspaper in the city of Grodno, but he was soon drafted into the army and served in one of the distant garrisons in the Kuril Islands until the end of the year.
Returning after demobilization to Grodno, then he moved to Minsk, Bykov is given to literary work. One after another, his novels are published: “Crane Scream”, “Front page”, “The Third Rocket” The latter, after translation into Russian, put the author in the first row of the front -line generation of those who were in the war by soldiers and officers of the front Territory or, as they wrote then, “Lieutenant Literature”, which became a noticeable phenomenon of the spiritual life of the 10ths.
